With Mercury’s recent arrival in Gemini, we are officially gearing down for its next retrograde phase – though the formal kickoff isn’t until the end of the month (May 29th, to be exact), we’re going to want to decelerate a bit and drop into a lower gear now to build some power in order to make it through with minimal disruption. This Rx is a bit of an agility course; only after we’ve spun around like this multiple times due its repeated contacts to disorienting Neptune:
Perhaps one of the bigger keynotes of this upcoming Mercury Retrograde is: Slow down and check your orientation/heading as a first order. Wind the gears in your brain DOWN and take a few deep, centering breaths before opening your mouth, answering that email/text, or posting on social media. Maybe say nothing at all. Consider taking a mini “communications sabbatical” if it’s not absolutely essential. I say this because there is a higher than usual likelihood that mindless engagement during this retrograde period can cause us to be the source of our own suffering. We may have a disorganized or disordered mentality about something and this is hardly the place to be making enlightened conversation from. “No comment at this time” is a perfectly acceptable response during this upcoming retro. Mindfulness gives us an edge; think twice. Mindlessness, however, presents a real problem – this is especially so if alcohol or other substances (natural or pharmaceutical) are allowed into the mix; do NOT drink and text/dial, kids! Checking our orientation/heading may also involve utilizing a combination of intuition and critical thinking to introspectively examine where we may have been misinformed about something; either via our own wishful thinking, being in a state of denial, or perhaps we’ve even been outwardly deceived by someone else. There’s much more to this Mercury Retrograde of course, but this is a good starting point for now.
With Neptune pausing to halt and shift into retrograde gear today, its vibes are ultra strong in the cosmos at the moment! Pay attention to messages in your dreams, during restful states like meditation, savasana, or prayer, and listen to that “still small voice” welling up from Within or even whispering in your ear right now. Weird and wonderful things can happen when Neptune is stationing, and especially with it currently supported by Mercury and Jupiter the messages from Spirit are apt to be big and loud.
For example on the way home from my run this morning, I petitioned my Guides aloud to please send me a feather – as I returned home not 10 minutes later, what do think I noticed had conspicuously materialized on my lawn somehow, LOL? A hawk feather! Not only did my Guides deliver, but they delivered in a huge way; somebody was definitely listening! The veil between mundane and non-ordinary reality is gossamer thin at this time; the invisible membrane separating our world from the spiritual world is indeed ultra-permeable. Keeping lucid and clear-headed while consciously opening up lines of communication to Divinity through methods like prayer, Journeying, meditation, or even divination pays off big time now.
I mention clear-headed quite deliberately because Neptune is such an exquisitely sensitive vibration that it’s easy to miss its subtle intimations if/when we’re in an artificially altered state of consciousness, and so much valuable guidance can be lost this way! Besides, with this planet stationing adverse effects from substances of all stripes – ranging from allergic reactions to problems with anesthesia – are more likely to occur. Those in naturally altered states – say, those with narcolepsy or Alzheimer’s, for example – may find this energy can indicate experiences with lucid dreaming or even a lessening of dementia symptoms. When Neptune turns retrograde, it’s like the fog temporarily parts and we can see more clearly with our 3rd eye. And speaking of lucid dreaming: If we’re tempted to experiment with this using the aid of natural sleep aids/enhancers like herbs or supplements, just go easy! Echoing the aforementioned theme of increased sensitivity as we reach the Neptune station, this is understandably not something we would want to overdo because they’re apt to be more potent than usual.
One other facet of Neptune turning retrograde is that it often tends to unveil some kind of illusion we’ve been living under; whether that’s some kind of outright deception surfacing or just a skewed perception we’ve had about something/someone. Our Guides are trying to help us see beyond the veil created by the effects of smoke and mirrors, ruses, lies, and fantasy now, so be sure to thank them for their tireless service to our Highest Good if this happens. Perhaps you’ll even find some feathers, too, as evidence of this; supposedly a tangible sign that angels are indeed watching over us. 👼🕊
As a writer, it’s always interesting for me to watch how my energy shifts as Mercury finds itself in contact with the other planets. In case you hadn’t noticed I’ve been a bit quieter than usual on the blogging front, though behind the scenes I’ve been strategically toiling away at astro-forecasts, getting hardcore tuned-in to the incoming Mercury-Neptune energy so prevalent this month & next and using it as fuel for an enlightening newsletter article, and generally just staying on-task and minimizing distractions while in this “zone”. This has meant allowing some time off from blogging, which is actually good practice for the astrology we currently have in play. You see, Mercury has just passed an opposition to shut-your-mouth Saturn and edges ever-closer to a square with dissipating Neptune, so there is certainly no sense for any of us in prattling on (whether that’s writing, texting, or talking) just to fill space now. There must be a purpose to what we say and it must be meaningful, otherwise what’s the point?
I think it’s interesting how so-called “dead-air” seems to make us, as a species, rather anxious these days. What’s wrong with a little silence now and again – especially if/when our focus is lacking and maybe we don’t have a clear idea of exactly what we want to say? At what point does chatter just become white noise that only fills the mind with static? I say it’s far better to be deliberate with what we say under this kind of sky and even erring toward laconic rather than babble on distractingly about nothing substantial! And with Mercury in Gemini squaring Neptune for most of May, maybe a (temporary) retreat from the information overload and/or gossip fest that Mercury in Gem can sometimes be is in order. We could always brush up on our mindfulness practice, meditate in order to quiet our Monkey Minds, get lost in a fantastic work of fiction, reconfigure our brainwaves with the use of some binaural beats or even hypnotic/subliminal messages….the key is using tools or techniques that unlock the more intuitive right hemisphere of our mind so the overstimulated left hemisphere calms and allows information to flow in from non-rational, non-linear sources.
Once this occurs, you may be surprised at the amount of magic and synchronicity that can be found in the everyday. Consider keeping a dream diary, paying attention to songs on the radio for any hidden messages, and generally just being receptive to what your intuition has to say, because Mercury wired to Neptune is apt to be nonverbal and prefers speaking to us in symbols or via music. Listening is an important part of communication too, you know – it’s skill every bit as critical as being able to articulate out thoughts. Because whenever we’re motor mouths, we’re essentially jamming the receiver and sending The Universe a “busy” signal – how can its messages possibly reach us if we’re too busy talking to listen? How can we expect it to get a word in edgewise? Ebb and flow, ebb and flow…allow the tide to recede and then watch what shows up on the beach.
