Making The Most Of Jupiter In Libra

Jupiter will enter Scorpio for a year-long stay on October 20, 2017 and this means we only have a few more months of Jupiter in Libra left to go! Jupiter has recently resumed direct motion and now sits at the halfway point of Libra, and as such I thought this would be an opportune moment to assess whether we’ve been making the most out of its tour through the sign of The Scales – if not, there is still plenty of time to get right!

Jupiter is king of more, more, more – when he treks through refined Libra it’s a call for more love, grace, tact, beauty, fairness, harmony, cooperation, sharing, and general pleasantness. Are we seizing all the opportunities this transit has made available to us to elevate our game in any and all of these respects? Are we truly emphasizing kindness, peacefulness, unity, and reciprocity in our minds and hearts, or could we be doing better?

Honesty is an important keynote of Jupiter, but when it’s in Libra we benefit from softening it a bit via kindness – diplomatic honesty and tactful candor really do make the difference. Boost the truth with a pinch of sugar; something nice and/or complimentary that makes it more palatable. Seek to be extra gracious, because it does get you much further with people when Jupiter is in Libra. Don’t go overboard because then it may come across as disingenuous, but putting a little polish on the truth makes it infinitely more appealing, don’t you think? It’s the difference between “Oh MAN, your ass looks big in those jeans!” vs. “The cut of that skirt is more flattering” – we’re still being honest, but we’re not using this as an excuse to be lazy with our manners. Jupiter in Libra does ask that we civilize our candor!

Are we still judging books by their covers? Lo-Fi Jupiter in Libra can be incredibly looksist; Hi-Fi Jupiter in Libra understands beauty is a total package! I mentioned before this placement is all about “more beauty”, but this is meant in an all-encompassing context rather than pure aesthetics. It’s fine and dandy to improve your appearance under this vibe; just be sure you have more to offer rather than relying upon good looks to open every door up wide. While it may help to superficially crack them, enhancing this with copious amounts of charm, elegance, grace, and tasteful good humor while genuinely just being a nicer person can take you far!

Lastly, have we embraced the Tao of Mutual Growth and Benefit like a religion? This is a philosophy to really get behind during Jupiter in Libra – how can we make life better for one another? And because Jupiter in Libra emphasizes the institutions of marriage and partnership, have we explored and/or come to a greater understanding regarding the principle of romantic happiness? Perhaps there are certain self-evident Truths we’ve learned that impact how we see a current relationship or relationships period; the hopeful result being that it leads (now or in the future) to a great union with more compatibility.

So how would you grade yourself at this midterm? You have 3 more months to bring your GPA up before finals; otherwise you’ll miss getting the most out of Jupiter in Libra. This is a once-in-12-years opportunity, so please don’t let it pass you by – Jupiter will not be back into Libra until 2028!

Jupiter In Libra Inconjunct Neptune in Pisces

What is “marital bliss”, anyway?  As the inconjunct (or quincunx, if you prefer) between Jupiter in Libra and Neptune in Pisces perfects on May 17 2017, it is important to note this is truly a subjective ideal!  Many of us think about this in broad terms and haven’t bothered to clarify with ourselves/Divinity/The Universe what exactly that vision looks like to us – it’s nobody’s fault, really, likely the result of being indoctrinated since childhood with fairy tales that vaguely trailed off in this manner. “And they lived happily ever after….” May have been the last words we heard before drifting off to dreamland as youngsters; a nebulous but reassuring omnipresent narrative that helped put us to bed at night.

But what if we are Awake, and wondering?

The paradigm that such a thing happens as if by magic is so deeply embedded in the Collective Unconscious that many of us have been sleepwalking in a sense.  It probably hadn’t even occurred to us to separate personal philosophies about love, togetherness, and relationship from the ones that have been instilled from media, our moral and/or spiritual background, our faith, and/or culture. But with Jupiter in Libra awkwardly backing into contact with Neptune in Pisces, meditating upon this topic is essential – there are a lot of things that have been passed off as Universal Truths about relationships that, well, aren’t.  Think about all the myths and stories we may have absorbed via osmosis that could have distorted our own personal Truth about what a happy union is AND regarding what it is that specifically makes *us* happy within the context of partnership.  The inconvenient Truth is we’ve been lied to – there is an “Eat, Pray, Love” quality to this energy and from a relationship perspective if we don’t ever take the opportunity to reflect on this and separate the signal from the noise it can be a setup for major disappointment and/or disillusionment.  An adjustment is needed – lucky for us, the current inconjunct between Jupiter in Libra and Neptune in Pisces provides just such an occasion.

A Jupiter In Libra Truth

The above philosophy regarding elevating our partner has huge resonance during Jupiter in Libra; particularly while it makes repeated squares to Pluto in Capricorn (i.e. in the weeks surrounding Nov 24th 2016, Mar 30th 2017, & Aug 4th 2017).  To reiterate a key point about this energy, Jupiter in Libra is a time for (mutual) growth and happiness in a union, but ever since Jupiter turned retrograde back in early February 2017, it’s entirely possible that we’ve taken for granted this will happen automatically; with no effort on our part. That’s what can make Jupiter transits a letdown – we puff ourselves up with these overinflated hopes expecting that he will just drop a cosmic goodie bag in our laps.  Then when we perceive him as not delivering the goods, we become disappointed when really what we should have been doing all along was seeking opportunities from within to create the growth and happiness we hope for.

At the moment Jupiter in Libra is also sitting in a prolonged and uncomfortable inconjunct with illusory Neptune until late July (note this leads right up to the time frame of the final Aug 4th square between Jupiter & Pluto), and many may be attempting to tune out inconvenient Truths about their partner, the general state of their relationship, and regarding their own role pertaining to any disillusionment with either. There is an element of Divine Discontent conveyed by this awkward pairing that can make it difficult to put a finger on why we’re not exactly happy in a partnership.  It’s not abuse – that would be far too obvious. Neglect, however, is far more insidious, eroding away happiness until partners drift away from one another.  It seems innocuous at first so that we tolerate it; appearing “benign” enough that we don’t see the Truth of it in its entirety.  But even small leaks can turn into a cascading waterfall.  Perhaps we’ve forgotten to give our spouse a kiss before leaving for work – if it happens once, we might not think it a big deal. But sometimes this snowballs until all the love and affection has seeped out and we’re left sleeping in separate beds.

On occasion, we also might not realize that we don’t seem to have as much in common with one another as we did “once upon a time” – political and social views may have blurred our understanding of one another where we no longer see eye-to-eye and isolation trickles into the open space where there was once unity.  There is also the angle that couples don’t always grow together in a spiritual sense; an uncomfortable schism can indeed infiltrate a relationship, creating a wide gulf between orthodox “faith” and the more free-flowing “spirituality”.  Or maybe we simply can’t recall the last time a significant other paid us an honest compliment – whatever the case, these many different kinds of “trickles” can all have the potential to dissolve even a good union if there are enough of them.

If we value the relationship, however, we cannot continue to ignore such issues. Neptune’s current influence upon Jupiter in Libra can be one of estrangement, so unions become more vulnerable to this pervasive-yet-vague sense of general dissatisfaction that cannot quite be named.  If we’ve ever been “together” with someone and yet felt so alone, the current inconjunct between Jupiter in Libra and Neptune in Pisces can carry this same rippling sheen of sadness. Meditate on all of this now, and imagine what might happen if our Significant Other were to stumble upon a Price(ess) Charming who elevates them where we have neglected them.

Jupiter Square Pluto: Thundering Bass

We are heading into the second of three rounds involving Jupiter in Libra squaring Pluto in Capricorn. On March 30, 2017 this alignment perfects yet again, however its vibrations already permeate the air like deep, thunderous bass notes pulsing away in the background. When Jupiter and Pluto align there is potential for massive transformation; the problem being that we usually have to make our way through a whole lot of crap on this journey to Illumination. With Jupiter presently in Libra, major issues tend to involve the beliefs and points of view we have about the institution of partnership – under this square, any dysfunctional relationship paradigms tend to be exposed and the ugly Truth laid bare. This process isn’t pretty, but is *is* honest! If we are to totally overhaul our partnering philosophy for the better, even the most uncomfortable parts must be put under a magnifying glass.

On the personal level, one manifestation we may see regarding this energy is that it can tend to blow up any toxic, hoary old issues within relationships; particularly those that center on themes involving resentment, power trips, manipulation, or control “baggage” we might be harboring on a conscious or subconscious level. There can be a sense of a huge implosion regarding this energy; where a relationship hits some kind of “fix it or fuck it” crisis point that isn’t so much external as the result from internal pressure that has been building from within for some time. Relationships where the growth of both parties have become stifled – particularly by the stagnation bred of any orthodoxy that has us entrenched in some kind of defunct status quo – are the most at risk for things coming to a head during this square. By that statement, I mean the adherence to any kind of social convention that may have led us into territory we could broadly label as “stuck and fucked”. For example, people in long-term relationships often experience pressure to get married because culturally and religiously we are programmed to see this as “good”. This is a wonderful thing when we’re partnered with the right partner and for the right reasons – it can certainly be a blessing that increases the intimacy of that connection and vastly enriches both parties in a way that helps them grow together.

But what if we’re not partnered with the “right” person or psychologically didn’t come together for all the “right” reasons? What if there was coercion involved; say perhaps by an arranged marriage? Or what if marriage doesn’t actually serve to level up our relationship? And perhaps the most horrifying (but possibly relatable) thought of all: What if we are just killing time together; wasting time and opportunity because there’s “nothing better going on”? What if we have come to the unpleasant but honest realization that we have somehow “settled”?

Quite simply, people are apt to want more out of their relationships under this energy – especially with a now-retrograde Venus deposing of both Jupiter and Pluto. This can create enormous tension; tension that has huge potential to both create and destroy. As dire as this may sound, there is value in being honest with ourselves and others. And we must have faith in this transformational process…even when it takes us through messy, muddy terrain.

This is not the kind of astro where we see that things have slid into a long, slow, Pluto-in-Capricorn state of deterioration and then allow these relationship issues to blow up in a big way now; not if we value the union and are of the “fix it” camp, anyway – perhaps a relationship guru may be able to render some assistance through the therapeutic process. But if instead we are of the “fuck it” philosophy, then perhaps we trust this collapse will ultimately prove constructive and to be for the good of us both in the end. However, if there is a better way to end it I highly suggest doing so because things can get real ugly and real vindictive under these skies!

At the beginning of this post I brought up the potential trigger points of resentment, power trips, manipulation, and control as being particularly problematic during this square, making these themes important to be aware of within ourselves and specifically with respect to our partnerships now. I think it’s important to understand that many of the aforementioned dynamics have the same lowest common psychological denominator of suspicion and fear; possibly the result of broken trust where our faith in others was damaged or destroyed at some point in our personal history. In situations where we have lacked power in the past it can unfortunately be easy to overcompensate for this by claiming too much power in a partnership, which can result in said behaviors.

The only way to heal this, though, is to be open and honest about it; first to ourselves and then to others. What would it look like if – instead of becoming reactive and manifesting this energy pathologically – we looked at this under the lens of “I’m having trouble trusting right now because it’s triggering ______ issue”? What if we were able to see the Truth that a fear-based approach to claiming our power will poison even the best of unions? Trust is the foundation of all good partnerships – if we can’t trust someone enough to where we constantly try to wield leverage over one another and repeatedly find ourselves enmeshed in all kinds of power plays, it’s a sign that we need to take a giant step back from the relationship. Strip everything away and the root of *real* intimacy is trust, which is based upon the concept of there being vulnerability. If there is no risk, then there is no real reward – it’s that simple. How can we possibly have the whole relationship enchilada when we can’t even metaphorically take our clothes off in front of each other?

Further, with a retrograde Venus as dispositor of both Jupiter in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn this energy seems like it could have a “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover” feel to it when growth, faith, and all that is good and holy within a union threatens to be choked off by the black tentacles of restrictive strangulation. This does generally seem to create an “open invitation” environment for some kind of intrusion to occur regardless of whether an affair is consciously or subconsciously sought out. Hush-hush types of opportunities can certainly be a hallmark of any Jupiter-Pluto alignment; especially when it’s something BIG being kept on the down-low. The problem is Jupiter will also tend to “out” these things, as this planet is pretty terrible when it comes to being secretive. But if one is truly hoping for the demise of a situation underneath it all, it certainly is a means to an end…literally. With Venus retrograde in Aries, we might not be brave enough to admit this is what we want. Or perhaps we are uncertain or confused about our true desires. Mind you, this should not be interpreted as justification, but it goes a long way in understanding true underpinning of the dynamics from all angles.

Jupiter In Libra Opposite Uranus In Aries, Part 3

With the second of three exact hits between Jupiter in Libra and Uranus in Aries exact today, I want to talk about another facet of this energy which is its capacity for massive breakthroughs. I recently attended a lecture given by astrologer Rick Levine and he had a particularly golden line about Uranian energy that really stuck with me – he said this planet’s “only job is the instantaneous resolution to irresolvable opposites”. Being that we presently have an opposition in play between Jupiter and Uranus, I thought about how especially appropriate this concept was. And because Jupiter magnifies everything he touches, this is currently being done on a very large scale. Any time there is a rut or stalemate on a micro or macro level, with this duo in the mix something has got to give. Both planets carry strong freedom urges – Jupiter is “Don’t fence me in!” while Uranus defies convention and breaks all the rules. Put them together and allow them to play off one another and it can be a recipe for some kind of huge (but good) upset to occur. It certainly can be a big shock, but in the Grand Scheme of Things when we look back we’re likely to perceive this as liberating or as some kind of giant evolutionary leap that pulled us into the future.

If Jupiter is the thunder, then Uranus is the lightning – the skies rumble and what is released is a giant flash of electric blue incandescence that may in fact be a portal to another world; instant teleportation to a different time and place light-years away from where we stood only a moment ago.

Now this doesn’t come easy – an opposition is involved, so we have the sense of being pulled between factions and/or beliefs. But the Truth liberates – perhaps what is called for under these skies is a radical re-orientation of our philosophy; a 180-degree turnaround where we suddenly see a totally different point of view that changes everything. Break away from any dogma that does not liberate you – especially if this involves the revelation of some kind of relationship or even social Truth.

Free your mind; the rest will follow.

Repost: Jupiter In Libra Opposite Uranus In Aries, Part 2

jupiterinlibraoppositeuranusinariesWe recently discussed some implications of the current Jupiter/Uranus opposition in Part 1 of this series, but now I want to discuss an entirely different angle of this energy!  Yet another facet of  this vibe is the unrest it tends to generate for social paradigms. Under Jupiter in Libra we now seek similarity of beliefs/worldviews/politics, but with this planet repeatedly opposing Uranus in Aries we’re apt to run into clashes in this respect within our social networks (real life AND digital).  Suddenly people we thought we had a lot in common with out themselves (rather shockingly) with a view that seems…well, perhaps radical or even crazy to us.

Now let me first say that I am all for tolerance regarding a difference of perspective.  But what happens if you find out your crew is entertaining some rather lunatic fringe ideologies?  Say white nationalist (read: Neo-Nazi) views?  I’m cool with a lot of things – I *have* to be, as I’m an astrologer and thus fully aware that people look at a lot of the things *I* believe and think they’re wacky!  This is why I try not to judge.  But even I draw the line at philosophies that preach hate instead of love; prejudice over understanding.  And this is exactly the kind of astrological setup we have going on right now.  The first exact pass of Jupiter in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries occurred on December 26, 2016 and the second perfects on March 2, 2017, after which we’ll have just just one more round to get through on September, 27, 2017.

So what happens when the group ideology abruptly loses resonance with us?  Well, we may seek out a new clique for one – this energy has a very polarizing feel to it initially; one that will tend to push us to find people with more harmonious philosophies.  It’s not that everybody else is crazy and we’re sane, either – in fact, it’s possible for any number or reasons (personally I blame the Mutable Madness that so dominated 2016; a year that will forever go into the history books as the year the world collectively lost its mind!) that perhaps WE are changing our own beliefs.  Perhaps we’re shocked and upset, thus being inclined to shift our political or moral stance 180 degrees.  Maybe this even triggers more activism out of us.  But one thing is for sure: Our Truth (or at least our perception of it) will change if we’re affected by the opposition between Jupiter in Libra and Uranus in Aries. And perhaps drastically so.  Whether it’s individual or collective, micro or macro, the more polite and balanced views are especially likely to be challenged so that we no longer sit on the fence.

For example: Harkening back to what I said earlier regarding the rise in Neo-Nazi ideologies that I think will occur under this opposition, do we continue to be polite about racism?

In a strictly neutral sense of these words, Uranus is Progressive and Liberal; Jupiter is Conservative.  Uranus can be evolutionary or it can be crazy – there is a reason for the old astrological Uranian axiom which states “Freedom without responsibility is license, not liberty”.  Jupiter can be open-minded or it can be a complete bigot.  Uranus is the group – it symbolically represents clubs, associations, fraternities, and organizations as well as our broader social cliques/communities in general.  Uranus can bring people who have nothing else in common together because they have a common cause/ideal. This can be positive, or it can be negative – what is the KKK but the Arya(ie)n Brotherhood, after all?  And Uranus IS in Aries, is it not? Aries rules the head, and skinheads are most definitely a Lo-Fi example of how this fraternal vibe can manifest problematically.  Jupiter is the Promotor or Preacher – in Libra, it seeks to share and spread its Truth by attracting those with compatible views. Gone awry, it can also be incredibly looksist and very much inclined to judge a book by its cover.

Now we see how this series of oppositions can potentially create a fertile breeding ground for all kinds of crazy philosophies to take hold.  The overwhelming tendency for people to seek out a Tribe with whom they morally and politically align means it’s going to be very difficult and will require a lot of awareness to keep this all in check, because the default inclination will be for us to separate into these polarized factions instead of trying to understand the common ground we have with one another.  I’m not suggesting we hold hands and sing kumbaya with would-be members of the Fourth Reich – far from it!  But what we DO need is to stay woke about this dynamic while trying to connect to the greater Truth of Love, because when people are alienated they are far more vulnerable to this kind of radicalization. Instead of distancing ourselves from a friend who is starting to seem a little “out there” in their views, maybe we can try reeling them back in by engaging them around the ideologies we do share.

Repost: Jupiter In Libra Opposite Uranus In Aries, Part 1

jupiterinlibraoppositeuranusinariesThe next major astrological lineup we have on our hands is the impending opposition between Jupiter in Libra and Uranus in Aries.  This configuration became exact for the first time on December 26, 2016 but now round 2 of this vibe is currently active and building – it perfects once again on March 2, 2017 and repeats a final time on September 27, 2017.  We’ll see the effects of this energy playing out a few weeks before AND after this opposition perfects, so it’s definitely a dominating energetic backdrop to the astro-scene that lingers well beyond the specific dates above.

What might we expect from the opposition between Jupiter in Libra and Uranus in Aries?  Quite a bit, actually – like all things astrological there’s never just one manifestation; rather there are layers to it. The first that came to mind for me involves the “we vs. me” theme of the Libra/Aries axis.  Coupled peeps should be aware this is a time when unexpected opportunities may surface for one or even both partners within that union, potentially leaving the partnership on uncertain footing.  It may even entail a distance separation.  In a neutral sense, this space can be thought of as simply giving the relationship some air, and it is fully possible for the space to bring growth & opportunity for both – for example,  for a greater level of independence or for emphasizing our social lives outside of that union to bring better balance between individuality vs. coupledom.

Ideally – in the Grand Scheme of Things – this space allows us to grow together rather than apart, but there are certainly no guarantees when Uranus is involved. Can we still want the best for a partner when these opportunities result in each of us going our separate ways (at least for the time being)?  This energy raises many questions about the growth of a union vs. our individual evolutionary Journey – can we still come together after we each go our own way, or is this where our Paths diverge?   What if an opportunity for a Significant Other means they wind up going cross-country or even intercontinental for a while?  What this really amounts to is an exercise in faith and trust….if you love something then set it free under this astro, because it may return to you better than it left you.  But if it continues to fly, then let it soar and believe this is because there is something much better in store!

Now for the single peeps – and particularly those who rabidly prize their independence – the opposition between Jupiter in Libra and Uranus in Aries may enlarge prospects for partnering.  There is the possibility of unexpectedly meeting Mr. or Mrs. Right and suddenly being challenged to shift that partnering philosophy.  What happens when you’re not looking to be partnered and yet in a bolt of freak luck from out of the clear blue you meet a good man or woman completely from left field (perhaps through friends/online/at a meetup group) who’s actually really good for you – what do you do THEN?  Or what happens – even if you aren’t all gung-ho about being single – if you have the sudden epiphany that a friend would make a really good partner?  Could the friendship survive this?  Should you act on it? There can definitely be a division between “Let’s just be friends” vs. “Let’s turn this into something more” under this astrological vibe.

There’s much more to come on this opposition – stay tuned…

The Beauty Of Jupiter In Libra

womensmarchThe slogan of the Women’s March on Washington sure is quintessential Hi-Fi Jupiter-in-Libra if I ever did see it:

“We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all.

Truth (with a capital T) is a Jupiter concept; justice, peace, and equality are all Libra themes. Hi-Fi Jupiter is all about diversity, inclusivity, open-mindedness, and tolerance – it is political and philosophical. Hi-Fi Libra is unity, harmony, Love, like-attracting-like, fairness, and cooperation.

The very best Jupiter in Libra offers us is the ability to lift one another UP and to find cohesive philosophical common ground even when there are differences – it’s all Love. And that’s what struck me about this huge worldwide event; the broad range of issues that converged and yet the real sense of solidarity among attendees. True it started as a women’s march, but it bloomed into something much more and there were men and people of all colors and creeds attending for various reasons. Sister marches mushroomed up on the local and international levels. Signs read everything from “Get your hands off my uterus”, to standing up for LGBTQ rights, to protesting Trump, raising concerns about climate change, proclaiming that Black Lives Matter, speaking out against the recent proposal to roll back the Endangered Species Act, objecting to the DAPL, calling for water protection, and just about everything in between. Regardless of whatever each person’s particular pet “issue” was for participating in the march, everyone seemed to agree on one thing: They don’t like the direction Washington is going in and want their voices heard.

That is what Jupiter does, folks – it’s known as “the Promotor” for good reason! Having the aid of this planet is like having a giant megaphone; it blows issues up and magnifies them in ways we can’t ignore. In Libra there is also the ability for Jupiter to partner up with people from all different nations, ethnicities, and backgrounds to unite over a common Principle/shared philosophy, with mutual growth and reciprocal blessings being the end result. In this writer’s humble opinion the March was a beautiful example of this; inspiring hope and unity in a positive way during a time it is sorely needed ❤

jupiterinlibraoppositeuranusinariesOne of the next major astrological lineups we have on our hands is the impending opposition between Jupiter in Libra and Uranus in Aries.  While not exact until December 26, 2016, this vibe is currently active and building and it is particularly worth paying attention to because it will reoccur twice more – once on March 2, 2017 and a final time on September 27, 2017.  We will see the effects of this energy playing out a few weeks before AND after this configuration perfects, so it’s definitely a dominating energetic backdrop to the astro-scene that lingers well beyond the specific dates listed above.
