“Bad” Moon Rising

I’m fairly certain John Fogerty (of CCR fame) must have written the band’s hit song “Bad Moon Rising” under a Scorpio Moon.  Just listen to the lyrics; the sense of an impending apocalypse, natural disasters galore, mortality, wrath and destruction, an eye-for-an-eye – what a cheery little ditty, LOL! 😀

But my point is the mood of this song aligns quite well with the Scorpio Moon; a sign where the Moon is said to be in her astrological “Fall”.  A planet in this condition requires extra supervision from the chart owner, as its natural default expressions tend to be more problematic as a general rule.

Mind you, Fallen planets absolutely *can* be harnessed  constructively (even exceptionally so) by those who own them so it’s not as if this is truly a “Bad Moon”; it’s just this usually requires a considerable amount of wisdom gained from experience (sometimes called trial-and-error) to make it so.  We must remember that celestial bodies in this state are not inherently comfortable expressing themselves in a manner that is truest to their basic nature, so as a result they tend to express themselves awkwardly and can bumble around a bit until they gain more self-awareness.  For example, put a tomboy in a tutu and grace does not come easily or naturally.  With awareness and practice this can most certainly be gained, but I think the best way to describe planets in their Fall (or Detriment, for that matter) is thus: They lack innate aptitude for the typical job required of them.

Now in the case of the Scorpio Moon, we must first understand the Moon is associated with nurturing, comfort, and femininity (among many other things).  The sign of Scorpio, however, tends to put us deep into our un-comfort zone –  instead of a hug and warm fuzzy feelings, perhaps we’re given the heebie-jeebies.  Or maybe we *are* given a squeeze, but so intensely it becomes a death grip where we can’t breathe.  Related to this, from a parenting perspective the Scorpio Moon should be extra careful not to allow nurturing instincts to slip into overdrive where this becomes too intense/extreme.  While no doubt meaning well, some relinquishing of control over one’s children is beneficial so youngsters don’t feel smothered.  As far as femininity goes, since both the Moon and Scorpio are Yin this placement has to be vigilant not to use emotion or feminine wiles manipulatively; especially for the sake of feeding a psychological need for control.  The Scorpio Moon also tends to have a strong tie-in to the matrilineal DNA in particular for good OR ill. Occasionally this may manifest as an inherited “sixth sense” – if ever there were an astrological placement that speaks of “witchy” tendencies being genetically passed down through the bloodline, the Scorpio Moon would certainly be a placement to bring this out!  Frequently there also tends to be “strong women” in the family; perhaps those that overcame significant devastation or survived a brush with mortality in some way. The physical body can be dominated by hereditary strengths and illnesses alike, and particularly for women there may be an inclination toward hellish menstrual cycles, high-risk pregnancies, miscarriage and/or terminations, or complications arising during childbirth that can put life of mother or child (or both) in jeopardy – having excellent OBGYN care is an absolute *must* for this Moon sign; I’m not sure that any Scorpio Moon in the history of the world has ever said that being a woman was easy…!

So now that we’ve discussed a few challenges associated with this placement, let’s talk about some of the Hi-Fi sides of the Scorpio Moon.  For starters, this can be an extremely deep and emotionally sophisticated placement – the ability to deconstruct complex layers of tangled feelings in a way that gets right to the heart of the issue can make them wizards of psychological insight when it comes to our internal workings.  Scorpio Moons naturally make some of the best counselors, therapists, and/or psychologists on the planet because of this; not to mention that if anyone in the zodiac is going to be able to care for someone in a crisis and/or comfort them through grief/loss/trauma, it is this Moon sign!  Scorpio Moons tend to have a vast reservoir of emotional resources to pull from when the proverbial shit hits the fan; a quality that often makes them indispensable to those in “dark” places.  They’re also inclined to be incredibly loyal to those they consider “family”;  whether this is the family they were born into, the family they made, or their “family of choice” – when a Scorpio Moon says they’d take a bullet for you, they mean it!   They can be fiercely protective by nature and will circle the wagons around the vulnerable without hesitation to lend their strength – there is a bit of mama Grizzly Bear in every Scorpio Moon, I think!  Finally, their acute emotional sensitivity frequently gives them the capacity for intense receptivity to others needs – they can feel the vibes coming off you, see the look in your eyes, read your body language, and know exactly how to respond to your feelings without so much as a word being exchanged.
