Something Invaluable During Mars In Libra….

….A comrade-in-arms.  Someone who will “fight the good fight” alongside you.  Do you have someone in your life you can count on for this?  If not, it may be high time to get one!

Mars retrograding in Libra can help make us aware of who our allies are, as well as who they ARE NOT.  Dropping the frenemies & those who aren’t fighting on our side like hot potatoes before collateral damage can ensue may be in our best interest now.  April has some hot astrology and we’ll want to bring our “A” game to the table rather than squander energy mitigating potential brush fires caused by any faux alliances.

Saturn in Scorpio: Defining Sexuality?

I thought this a really interesting topic for Saturn in Scorpio – sure I’ve covered various interpretations of Saturn’s journey through this sign in my newsletter since Saturn arrived here in fall of 2012 (such as the consequences of sex, working on building or fortifying intimacy, and also the angle of how Saturn in Scorpio can actually limit sex & intimacy), but this was a new spin on the topic that I wanted to discuss.  Beyond feeling a need to define sexuality, Saturn in Scorpio can sometimes test it, or even repress it.  But we’re in Venus-in-Aquarius territory right now, so perhaps it’s an apt time to have a discussion about NOT fitting love into a neat, square little box – especially once Venus moves in to square Saturn on March 29th!  Venus in Aquarius defies convention when it comes to matters of attraction and love – and what exactly IS normal, anyway?  I don’t think there is such a thing, at least if not you buy into the findings of the Flexuality test.  The terms “hetero-” and “homo-“ are passé anyway; globally speaking, we seem to be finding new ways to define this aspect of our being without necessarily having to slap a label on it – this is very Aquarian Age chic!

Mars In Libra Entertainment/Query

Loooooong ago in a galaxy far, far away, I once had a very Mars-y (ex)boyfriend who used to urge my Libran ass to “Make a decision, even if it’s a wrong one!” –  I find that hilariously funny in retrospect, because it perfectly and succinctly illustrates the difference between how these two energies operate. One pulls the trigger, the other deliberates to weigh the pros against the cons.

One of Libra’s nicknames is “The Fence-sitter of the Zodiac”, which is born partially of its desire to balance opposing forces (i.e. positives vs. negatives) and partially due its consideration for others.  Libra doesn’t just think about how a decision or course of action impacts itself; rather it looks around to see how other people may be affected as well because its natural orientation is toward facilitating harmonious relations, and this can’t be had if we ignore others.

So how ya doin’ out there, Libras?  Ya’ll feelin’ a bit more decisive these days since Mars saddled into your sign back in December?  I know I am!  Let’s see if we waffle during Mars’ retrograde from March to May….!

The Internet During The Age Of Aquarius

While listening to those around me divulging tales of the latest FB flap, my gears began turning.  I thought about the state of the internet in general nowadays, shaking my head as if to ward off the bad taste these stories had left in my mouth.  Now l firmly believe that everybody is entitled to “a moment” now and again, but for whatever reason, I’ve just found the FB environment can make “having a moment” a way of life for some folks.  Perhaps this is why I’ve felt disinclined to join in all the social networking brujaja despite this being the dawn of the digital Aquarian Age and all.  I think I owe this reticence largely to the fact that I try to actively engage in activities that restore my faith in mankind, not erode it – the former is life-affirming; the latter, an energy sink. So for the time being, I think I will continue to sit this one out.

Mulling this all over and putting it within in an astrological context (as I am inclined to do), I thought it worth noting how the current astro generally facilitates people popping off.  We have some of the most challenging energy we’ve seen in decades out there right now, and some need a release valve for all this pressure/tension. Facebook dust-ups aside,  digital, social Uranus inhabiting in-your-face Aries hots up the internet (and our social networks!) fo’ sho’, and we’ve got a long way to go before Uranus leaves this sign for good in 2019!

Mars Retrograde In The News

Let’s break this down first – retrogrades are a cyclical phenomenon caused by differences in orbital speed between Earth & the other planets wherein a planet appears to move backwards in the sky from our perspective here on Earth.  The days when the planet in question (in this case, Mars) appears to halt movement and then change direction is called the “station” and  it’s said to be the time where the energy of a planet is at its most potent and palpable.

Case in point: Mars stationed (turned) retrograde on March 1, 2014.  Mars is the planet of war, and not coincidentally this astrological event coincided with Russia’s “occupation” of the Crimea region of Ukraine in the wake of civil unrest that had resulted in the ousting of the Ukrainian president just days prior. The interim Ukrainian government – along with members of the international community – has decried Russia’s actions as an open act of aggression interfering with the sovereignty of the country.  Many see this as an invasion, as an act of war.

Mars In Libra Buzzwords

Tactful Confrontation.

That’s how you do Mars In Libra the high-class way – Boo-ya!

Pay attention to this theme, as it’s active from December of 2013-July of 2014 while Mars visits this sign.  It also falls under the “Honing our (mad) social skillz” category  – see related post .

An Image To Meditate Upon…

….For the remainder of Venus in Capricorn:

VenusDeMilo

I chose the Venus De Milo as an archetypal representation for this energy as classical art is quintessential Venus in Capricorn – especially a true masterwork such as this sculptured out of pure, rock-solid, Capricorn-approved marble that provides an enduring symbol of beauty through the ages.  It might be worth investigating our visceral response to this image in the wake of its repeated conjunctions to Pluto…Does the resultant “wear and tear” of surviving through thousands of years – minus two broken arms – detract from her appearance and value?  Or is she a symbol of loveliness in her current state nonetheless – the hardship, time, and scars only transforming her beauty into something supernatural?  The slow state of deterioration adding a certain je ne sais quoi that cannot be replicated……

One might ponder if it is the act of restoring such a masterpiece that profanes and defiles.  This brings to mind the concept of wabi-sabi….

I wonder if perhaps we find it easier to accept her as-is because we have not known her any other way.   Having no firsthand knowledge of her “before” state, we have nothing to subjectively compare her to. This is where Venus in Capricorn excels – by setting a standard for beauty rather than caving to crumbling self-esteem and the fear that her realness isn’t “good enough”……

Sharpening Our Social Skills During Mars In Libra: An “Unfollow” Button, The Princess And The Pea, & Grace Under Fire

Coinciding with Mars’ entrance into “put-on-a-pretty-face” Libra in December, Facebook announced they now offer a more cut-to-the-chase “unfollow” button to replace their “hide all” function. A textbook passive-aggressive, Mars-in-Libra way of dealing with relational conflict on the social networking site, rather than directly “unfriend” someone because their posts continually annoy you, one can use this feature to simply mute their posts on your feed.  This way on the surface it still *looks like* all is fine and dandy – even though it really isn’t.  This is a classic Mars-in-Libra theme if I ever did see it, including their re-packaging of the “hide all” feature to more directly state its intended purpose for dealing with others.

I have to say I’m not very fond of the basic premise of this kind of thing on principle for a number of reasons.  For one, I think it’s easier to practice this sort of “benign” form of navigating relational conflicts than it is to proactively engage in the nitty-gritty work of negotiating potential hotspots a bit more openly.  My feeling is that hitting the mute button can actually …Read more…
