For Sagittarius

An amusing, quick-and-dirty way to figure out which side of the forthcoming Saturn/Neptune square you’re currently vibing with (active between 2015-2016) is to contemplate your response to the image below:

BeerBikeLimo

Meet the beer bike limo! Yes, it’s a real thing. You and a few pals can belly up to the bar and enjoy a pint whilst taking in a slow-motion tour of the city powered by your own two legs (and a Designated Driver chauffer, of course). If you get too tired/drunk to peddle? No big deal – an eco-friendly electric motor kicks in to save the day!

Now does the idea of a beer bike limo sound like the BEST. THING. EVER., or are you instead struck by impracticality of such a slow, seemingly pointless means of transport?

If you answered A, you’re most likely erring on the Neptune side of the equation. Neptune will square the Suns of all November & early December-born Sagittarians between now & late 2016. Symptoms of this can include: an increased hankering for booze (or other substances), a marked decrease in critical thinking and possible impaired judgment, and/or a longing for some kind of spiritual connection. For more possible manifestations (both constructive and detrimental), see the following post on Neptune transits.

If instead you answered B, you’re probably leaning more toward the Saturn end of things. ALL Sagittarians will experience the passage of Saturn over their Suns during the next 2 years, and this has the capacity to make for an “all work and no play” attitude. If you can’t muster at least a little good humor at the absurdity of the above-pictured invention, it may be a sign that you’re taking life a little too seriously these days and could benefit from an injection of whimsy! I mean, come on – it’s a pub crawl with cardio, for goodness sakes!

However you feel about the beer bike limo, you have to admit that it is a pretty genius business idea perfect for the aforementioned Saturn in Sagittarius square to Neptune in Pisces. Craft beers have been taking off like crazy thanks to Neptune’s residence in Pisces, and this is an excellent way of imbibing with virtual calorie-count neutrality while toning/firming those gams at the same time! It’s very neo-hippie, IMO – something Sadge would love, as I’ve yet to meet a Sadge that couldn’t run or bike their ass off. Well, OK – maybe one or two, but that’s because they favored armchair philosophizing over a couple of brewskis to general physical exertion, LOL. But this sign does love to stretch the legs and roam, and I can’t think of a more fitting (and hilarious!) mode of transportation for a Sadge having a Neptune transit – cheers!

Energy Cleansing, The Pluto Way!

Let me begin this tale by stating that Pluto thrives on renewal – its energy IS symbolic of The Phoenix after all; that mythical fire bird that was consumed in the flames of its old and dying self only to rise up from its ashes anew.  Pluto eliminates what’s stagnant or dead and vaporizes that stale energy in our life in order to make room for something vibrant and vital to take hold in that vacant space.  I was therefore tickled when – under a recent Pluto transit to my Venus (Venus being symbolic of money and earned income, of course) – I found myself burning old paycheck stubs from a former and unhappy profession as if they had been letters from an ex-lover.  There was no bitterness or resentment; just the recognition this was a part of my life that was (thankfully) over and incinerating the evidence was merely a symbolic gesture to The Universe that I had indeed moved on and cut ties.  I was quite surprised to find that I still had them – I found myself cleaning out a file cabinet when I unexpectedly came upon a file of years-old pay stubs that represented a time in my life where I felt disempowered and at the mercy of…well…assholes, LOL.  There really is no other way to say it, and besides, Pluto would frown upon any attempts to put a pretty face over it anyway.  😉   I’m sure many reading here can relate when I say there have been more than a few times during the course of my existence where I endured some screwy employment situations because I “needed the paycheck”.   Adding to this was the fact that, in this particular industry, sexism – if not outright misogyny – is the norm, so having a strong sense of self-worth made you somewhat of a liability if you were a woman, LOL. In retrospect, from the very beginning this was never quite a recipe for a “happy marriage”…

From the Robin Wood tarot - note the strong Pluto symbolism!
From the Robin Wood tarot – note the strong Pluto symbolism!

Needless to say, upon being faced with a tangible reminder of this period in my life, I was unable to shake the feeling that stack of paper probably had some pretty bad juju attached to it.  It was immediately after this realization that I was seized by a random impetus to burn the pile of check stubs, though not reactively so as there wasn’t really much emotion attached to the thought at all.  It was more along the lines of an immediate recognition that the burning would represent an energy cleansing of sorts – all the negativity attached to that time in my life would literally go *up in smoke*, and it wasn’t until I watched the hungry flames licking the papers’ edges and the printed numbers fading into blackness that it struck me this was indeed a *very* literal manifestation of the Pluto transit to my Venus!  I felt not only a palpable sense of closure at this symbolic act, but a sense of confidence in choosing to burn an energetic bridge that had led down a trail of financial enslavement; I would never again allow myself to be in a disadvantaged position like this where someone had financial leverage over me.  The warmth of the fire washing over me on such a chilly autumn night was comforting – I took a few deep breaths, inviting the heated air into my nasal passage and down my throat into my lungs to fully envelop me from within as well.  I smiled as the blaze cooled and the embers slowly died to ash, pausing to pick up a few pinches of the soot to scatter over my next deposit slip to the bank.  If it’s one thing about Pluto transits, it’s that the literal and figurative ash left in its wake makes one hell of a potent fertilizer for the seeds we plant with conscious intention.

For anyone else reading and who is dealing with a Pluto transit to their Venus, I highly recommend a ritual energetic cleanse similar to this if you’re looking to purge negativity and clear any funky or stagnant vibes that may still be lingering in the wake of this period.  If we’ve been through any situation where we’ve been “a slave to the money” or through relationship hell of one kind of another (because Venus represents love as well as cash), first we do well to invest lots of time & energy unraveling the layers of how this came to be the case.  We must go deep; be willing to look at any underlying dysfunction, address anything that affects our sense of self-worth, and fully investigate the “Hows” and “Whys” of what got us sucked into this undertow in the first place.  Then once we feel like we’ve hit the root of it (and I mean ALL of the various, spreading tendrils that tend to come attached to the complex situations symbolized by Pluto), it’s time to distill it down and level with ourselves so we can take our power back.  We may then consider a symbolic act of burning; an offering to The Universe that affirms we have indeed come out The Other Side of this energy. Most importantly, before doing so we must wait until we’re no longer raw about the situation anymore.  Emotions like resentment or bitterness have no place at such a ritual, as we cannot truly “let go” if we’re still holding on inside.  If it’s a bad relationship we’ve come through, maybe we burn photos, gifts, or love letters associated with that partnership.  If it’s a period of financial enslavement we’ve gotten out of instead, perhaps we burn old credit cards, past due notices, pay stubs, or anything else we no longer need to hold onto after this major transformation.  Clearing out the dead, negative energy in this manner can help to raise our own vibrations, and the void subsequently created by such an act allows us to hold space for the inevitable renewal that’s sure to follow ❤

The Insularity Of Neptune Transits

BubbleBefore I begin, let’s be clear on the point that every astrological energy holds the potential for both Hi-Fi & Lo-Fi expression; much of how it manifests (constructively or detrimentally, respectively) has do with the choices we make and the consciousness level of the individual. This is why I like astrology so much – I find when we’re aware of the full spectrum of vibrational frequencies an astro-energy emits, it allows us to make better choices and sidestep more problematic manifestations while actively seeking ways to capitalize on the beneficial facets of a particular vibe. But today I want to talk about one particular feature of Lo-Fi Neptune, and that’s the capacity to seal ourselves off in some sort of bubble or cocoon in response to anything we deem “harsh”. There’s a kind of a super-sensitization that occurs when we’re in the thrall of a Neptune transit, and while we can become kinder and gentler as a result of this, we’re also less inclined to deal in reality – particularly if/when it’s unpleasant. And we have plenty of “unpleasant realities” out there at the moment courtesy of Saturn in Scorpio still in mutual reception to Pluto in Capricorn.

When we experience a Neptune transit,  we may abide by “see no evil/hear no evil/speak no evil” and tend to suspend things like critical thinking, discernment, & our good judgment; preferring instead to operate on faith, idealism, and a belief in humanity’s better nature. We might be inclined to ask ourselves things like “Who am I to judge?” or make excuses for others’ bad behavior, but it’s precisely this tendency to suspend our normal filtering process that can lead us to shoot ourselves in the foot if we aren’t careful.  Besides the potential this creates for …Read More…

Venus In Cancer Is Movin’ Out!

With Venus in Cancer under big-time fire from Uranus & Pluto this week, I thought it’s as good a time as any to post about the astrology of moving house since Cancer is the consummate homebody & one of my newsletter subscribers recently wrote to me with a question about moving! So let’s talk about transits, shall we? The term “transits” is just another way of saying we’re going to take a look at the current motions of the planets and how these are impacting our individual birth chart, and a change of residence is usually triggered by some kind of transit to one of the “lunar” areas of our chart – i.e. to our Moon, 4th House, or IC (that’s also known as the Imum Coeli or Nadir, in more formal parlance 🙂 ). Typically, it is a transit from …Read More…

Astro-News Flash: Jupiter Has Entered Leo

Globe-trekking, beneficent Jupiter has entered fiery Leo, where it will remain for an entire year!

So what can we expect out of this year-long transit? Well, for one it’s a very beneficial energy for creative types – this can be art, sculpture, writing…any medium used for self-expression at all, really – because it expands creative mojo. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) in particular are really going to be juiced by this energy, but Sadge and Leo Suns will feel it in spades. Jupiter is also known as The Promotor – he blows us up and makes us larger-than-life so that our reach is expanded and we’re more visible to a wider (hopefully global) audience. As such, this astro-influence is bound to be a boon for artists & other creative types looking to get their creations “out there” and seen because this is such a conspicuous, high-profile energy.

While we’re on the topic of the pro-creativity vibe, I should also mention this can extend on a biological level as well since Leo is the sign of children. Want more kids or A kid? It’s possible you may get some astrological help in this department because child-related matters are indeed emphasized with Jupiter in Leo. Now by no means does this mean you *will* have a child, it just means that  …Read More…

Caught In The Cardinal Crosshairs

Wow, so the last two weeks have been INTENSE, am I right?! It’s been a pretty chaotic astro-scene with Mars re-triggering the Uranus-Pluto square for the THIRD time since the beginning of the year, and I’m about ready for all the madness to stop, aren’t you? I have been observing many sudden upsets all around during this period, from clients to friends & family, so count yourself blessed if the last couple of weeks have been relatively smooth sailing for you & yours!

Whenever we get a planet traversing one of the 4 Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) this lights up the status-quo busting dynamic duo Uranus & Pluto. Things are shifting, and these shifts are pretty seismic – I see them as metaphorical for evolution or extinction. While this does push us to bring our “A” game to the table, sometimes there is also value in knowing when to lay low, because while YOU may be bringing your best to bear, it most certainly does not mean everyone ELSE is! People respond differently to pressure; some rise to the occasion, others snap & lash out. But …Read more…

Dealing With Uranus Transits: Part Dos

So we’ve already talked about some of the basic manifestations of Uranian energy – including some of the Lo-Fi expressions of it – here.  But what about the flip?

If you’re dealing w/ a Uranus transit – meaning this planet has come into contact with a planet or angle in your astrological chart – it’s definitely time to start embracing your inner geek! The Hi-Fi expression of this planet’s energy is brilliant, super tech-savvy, and very forward-thinking. It’s a cerebral energy most comfortable operating on the “genius intellectual” level, and because of this, it embraces the label of “eccentric” or “weirdo” without so much as even batting an eye.  After all, let’s face it – aren’t we’re all a little weird somehow?

(Says the practicing astrologer, LOL!) 😉

Besides, life would be bland & uninteresting if everyone was the same! Uranian energy gives us the courage to be different and  march to the beat of our own drum, flying our freak flags proudly – torpedoes be damned! It represents originality, a desire to stand out from the crowd, to embrace things outside of mainstream culture, and to color outside the lines. Uranian energy is anything but cookie-cutter, adoring the odd and unusual; the “B” movies, independent record labels, and of course all things geek-chic & nerd-tastic in the world.BoldlyGo

When dealing with a Uranus transit, we become more inventive and open to experimenting with things/lifestyles/relationships that are different, strange, and novel. There’s also a highly progressive, future-oriented edge to this vibe that can help bust us out of ruts and put us on the fast-track to tomorrow. Uranian energy represents EVOLUTION; it is the process of change and awakening. In order to accomplish this, we must often be prepared to take a quantum leap somewhere in our lives that will put us *far* outside of our individual comfort zones!

The other awesome thing about Uranian energy is that it helps us connect to other like-minded individuals due to its egalitarian nature. With this vibe, we are more likely to appreciate what’s cool & unique about others through developing a friendly, intellectual rapport with them rather than holding the expectation that we should all be homogenous. Uranian energy also teaches us how to de-personalize so that we can work our social networks like a MoFo without the tail wagging the dog – a true Uranian is very good at remaining detached from internet drama, FB dustups, and any situation involving highly keyed emotion. This planet’s energy helps us to stay cool as a cucumber and rational in situations that might ordinarily frazzle others.KeepCalmAndBoldlyGo

I have always admired strongly Uranian individuals – they definitely make life MUCH more interesting and I appreciate the way they think for themselves & are inclined to question the Established Order. There exists the capacity within every Uranian to enact powerful reforms and to be an agent of change – evolution simply would not be possible without their hand. Consider the substantial societal contributions made by Uranians Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, FDR, Jackie Robinson, and Charles Darwin, just to name a few. These are all people who were revolutionary for their time and smack-on the proverbial “cutting edge”.

But even if your astrological chart isn’t hardwired to display these qualities from birth, each of us is handed an opportunity to tap into this energy whenever we deal with Uranus energy by transit (or progression). The natal chart shows us the energies we have available to draw from all our lives – it’s our birthday suit, so to speak. Transits and progressions, however, represent the costume changes where we get to try on the energies of certain planets for the time being, hopefully figuring out during this process how we can play them up to the hilt and use them to maximum advantage.

One suggestion for anyone who finds themselves dealing with this energy is to tap into this juice by finding a muse who embodies the facets of this vibe you would strive to emulate. If it’s genius scientist, Darwin might be your man. If it’s the will to fly in the face of inequity, Rosa parks just might be your gal. If it’s the spirit of a luminary tech-savvy inventor you want to embody, how about Thomas Alva Edison? You get the picture – figure out who your Huckleberry is and roll with it to get some positive inspiration!

The Beauty Of A Void: Dealing w/ Pluto/Scorpio/8th House Energies

I’ve found the subject of “voids” tends to evoke a certain amount of discomfiture in the general populace when contemplated or discussed. Sometimes the response is one of fear, other times outright loathing, as many equate the word “void” with a loss. While that’s certainly true to a degree when you boil it all down, I think it’s a far more rich & complex issue worth exploring. Such a simplistic viewpoint seems rather shortsighted to me, as it fails to take into account the deeper layers of what’s really at work when we’re dealing with this kind of negative space, which is – essentially – just an energetic vacuum of sorts.

A void is like a giant energetic “VACANCY” sign flashing out into the ethers. It has a way of attracting people/things into its orbit in order to fill that empty space, much along the vein of Aristotle’s postulation that “nature abhors a vacuum”. Whether a void forms by chance or by design, it’s natural that we initially focus on what’s *not* there any longer as we process ….Read more…

Words To Live By….

…when dealing with a Uranus transit: “I didn’t change; I just woke up.”

When Uranus makes significant contact to an individual’s chart, changes *do* happen and those looking in from the outside may indeed be quick point this out.  People may experience us as being “different” during these phases, but when funneling this energy toward its Highest Good, Uranus symbolizes an evolutionary call that shouldn’t be ignored. Cries from those around us demanding that things be put back “the way they were” into stale, familiar habits that we’ve learned by rote fall mute as we suddenly become aware that a pattern will have to be short-circuited in order for us to progress to the next developmental step. This is a valuable safeguard in situations and relationships that have hindered advancement on a soul-level, where we’ve felt “stuck” in a circumstance that has perhaps become customary but just isn’t working for us any longer. Uranus encourages us to step outside the mold and break with the Established Order, because “if what you’re doin’ ain’t workin’, try somethin’ else!”

Uranus is The Awakener; its key word is liberation. We can’t experience this if we are constantly kowtowing to confines of the traditional and the typical. There is a fine line when  working with the energies of this planet, however, as sometimes these changes can be applied in a non-constructive “disruptive” fashion. Indeed the purpose of any Uranus transit is to interrupt the “normal” flow of activities and relationships so that we find inventive solutions to issues that keep us from moving forward. However, the urge to bust loose, pull the ripcord, and get ourselves free can also have us upsetting the applecart in a way that has the potential to be quite destructive to ourselves and others if we aren’t careful. Uranus transits can denote a level of detachment that is sometimes just plain frightening because it seems so abrupt; appearing to come from out of left field without any rhyme or reason.  Ergo, when there is no thought or care to how this impulse to emancipate oneself is applied, it can entail scenarios where one allows “one bad apple” to “spoil the whole bunch” or throw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater. The earlier instances demonstrate positive change; the latter, reckless abandon. The trick to expressing the energy of this planet in Hi-Fi is for one to commit to adopting a level of personal responsibility during this planetary “wake up call”. It’s a small distinction, but a critically important one if the changes made at this time are to truly be a constructive reform rather than just a “get out of jail free card” cop-out.

Saturn in Scorpio: Defining Sexuality?

I thought this a really interesting topic for Saturn in Scorpio – sure I’ve covered various interpretations of Saturn’s journey through this sign in my newsletter since Saturn arrived here in fall of 2012 (such as the consequences of sex, working on building or fortifying intimacy, and also the angle of how Saturn in Scorpio can actually limit sex & intimacy), but this was a new spin on the topic that I wanted to discuss.  Beyond feeling a need to define sexuality, Saturn in Scorpio can sometimes test it, or even repress it.  But we’re in Venus-in-Aquarius territory right now, so perhaps it’s an apt time to have a discussion about NOT fitting love into a neat, square little box – especially once Venus moves in to square Saturn on March 29th!  Venus in Aquarius defies convention when it comes to matters of attraction and love – and what exactly IS normal, anyway?  I don’t think there is such a thing, at least if not you buy into the findings of the Flexuality test.  The terms “hetero-” and “homo-“ are passé anyway; globally speaking, we seem to be finding new ways to define this aspect of our being without necessarily having to slap a label on it – this is very Aquarian Age chic!
